As the prospect of football coming home looks ever more real, it seems that even the weekly-shop has succumbed to the furore.
The discount supermarket chains Aldi and Lidl have tweeted a promise to close all of their stores at 3pm this Sunday, if the England football team reaches the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The stores ordinarily remain open until 4pm, which is the scheduled kick-off time for the World Cup final. Aldi posted that they want their “colleagues to be the 12th man cheering on the lads”.
It remains to be seen whether other major UK businesses will follow suit, or whether they will decide to trade into extra time.
