Head Injured People in Cheshire (HIP) is a charity which aims to help and support head injury survivors, their family, friends and carers. HIP’s aim is to reduce loneliness and isolation and improve quality of life.

On Tuesday 25th September 2018 HIP organised a trip out for it’s members to Tatton Park and Poole Alcock were invited to help out.

At Poole Alcock, we love having an opportunity to volunteer within our community and the prospect of joining HIP at Tatton Park was too good to miss out on!

HIP is a fantastic local charity in Cheshire and it is clear that it’s members benefit greatly from the social events that are organised. Our Anna Burns, Head of the Personal Injury team and Verity McKay, Wills and Probate Solicitor both took time out of their working day to join the members and help out the HIP team.

We met the HIP team at 10:30 and welcomed members from Chester and Ellesmere Port who had travelled by coach to Tatton. Shortly thereafter the coach from Crewe and Nantwich arrived and we split the group into two smaller groups, one of which looked around the mansion whilst the other went to the farm.

HIP had arranged for each group to have a private tour of both the mansion and the farm, which was both interesting and entertaining for everyone. At the farm, we were taken back to 1944 and met the Estate Manager, his housekeeper and a Land Girl. We also met a number of the animals on the farm and had a hands on experience, feeding the chickens and stroking the baby goats.

After lunch, the members were given free reign to explore the park further and discover the gardens. Tatton has wheelchair facilities which meant that some members with mobility problems were still able to enjoy and explore.

Following the event, our Anna Burns said “From the work that I do here at Poole Alcock in the Personal Injury team, I am all too aware of how life changing a head or brain injury can be. It is absolutely wonderful to be involved with HIP and see the positive impact they have upon people’s lives. We had a wonderful time exploring Tatton with HIP, getting to know their members and sharing the experience with them.”

Thank you to both Edie and Lisa at HIP for inviting us and we look forward to helping out again with them in the future. You can find out more about HIP and the work that they do in our local area at http://www.hipincheshire.org.uk/
