When we heard that Leonard Cheshire Hill House in Sandbach needed help renovating their garden area for their residents to enjoy, we immediately offered a team of volunteers to help Lynn Ridgway realise this idea.
Lynn is the activities co-ordinator at Leonard Cheshire Hill House and her idea was to remove the shrubs from the existing borders and clear the ground so that in Spring next year, they can plant colourful, vibrant flowers for the residents to look at.
Hill House is a purpose-built home (with 24-hour nursing care), providing a range of services for adults with physical disabilities. From speaking with Lynn, we discovered that the home helps people with head and/or brain injuries resulting from a variety of causes, including road traffic accident victims, dementia, MS, drug overdose and suicide. https://www.leonardcheshire.org/support-and-information/disability-care-and-support/care-homes/hill-house
As part of Poole Alcock’s commitment to helping community projects, we were excited about helping this fantastic organisation on our doorstep
Our Sandbach office in particular is home to our personal injury team, who regularly help individuals and their families following serious injury, including head injuries. We are all too aware of how life changing such injuries can be and therefore having an opportunity to help Leonard Cheshire was wonderful.
The garden at Hill House is a valuable part of the home, allowing residents to feel close to nature. The garden is within a courtyard area and as such, offers a place of sanctuary and peace for the residents.
Our team of 6 lawyers offered a Saturday morning to help clear the garden.
The weather forecast for 13th October showed thundery showers and gusts of 40mph, however we were not deterred!
Thankfully the rain held off and although blustery, the team was able to clear the borders and even remove ivy from a dividing wall, revealing some beautiful old brickwork.
The garden is now ready for planting up in Spring with some interesting and colourful flowers for the residents to enjoy and we hope to return again to help out with the planting!
Thank you to Luke Pritchard, Sarah Jane Dunhill, Leanne Salt, Eve Lakin and Anna Burns for giving up part of their weekend to volunteer.
