Prior to joining Poole Alcock Natascha spent over a decade at one of the largest international law firms in the world, specialising in corporate criminal work, crisis management and regulatory compliance.
Natascha has particular expertise in food safety, water regulatory, environment and health & safety. Natascha is a Solicitor Advocate with rights of audience in the Higher Criminal Courts and can therefore advise organisations during criminal and regulatory investigations, providing representation from the initial interview with the regulator through to Crown Court trial.
Natascha regularly advises clients on technical food safety matters including; allergen management, food labelling, food hygiene control systems, pest control, unsafe and substandard food, use-by-date offences and other enforcement issues. Natascha has worked on multiple cases defending Food Business Operators with regard to alleged breaches in relation to allergen management and control and the provision of allergen information to the final consumer. She has also advised clients on changes to the regulatory regime surrounding allergen labelling and the changes which will apply to products which are pre-packed for direct sale and provided practical solutions on how businesses can implement changes to ensure compliance.
Whilst Natascha regularly advises on contentious food matters, she is also experienced in providing non-contentious compliance advice. Recent examples include reviewing the labelling and packaging of products prior to the new product being introduced to the market to ensure complete compliance with the regulatory regime. Natascha also undertakes compliance reviews of packaging to be utilised on products sold within both the UK and Europe highlighting any changes which will need to be undertaken in light of the new Brexit regime and changes to labelling legislation.
Natascha is also experienced in prosecuting and defending under the Water Industry Act 1991 and the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations, advising on a range of matters including; water pollution and contamination offences, illegal water fittings, permitting issues and warrant of entry applications. With clients acknowledging the risk of significant fines and the reputational damage that can be caused from defending a prosecution Natascha is increasingly advising clients on the successful resolution of a case via an enforcement undertaking.
Natascha has dealt with a variety of regulators on a regular basis including the HSE, local authorities, Trading Standards and the Environment Agency. Natascha is able to assist clients with all aspects of a regulatory investigation whether that be assisting the organisation with the initial investigation and providing advice and management on the appropriate post-incident actions, providing representation and assistance at PACE interviews and ultimately representing the client in Court.
Natascha has spoken at various specialist industry conferences including the IOSH Food and Drink Manufacturing Health and Safety Conference, the UK Hospitality Food Safety Seminar (attended by senior representatives from the UK’s leading food companies) and UKELA. Natascha also regularly delivers training to clients and industry groups.
