  • How does legal aid work?

Legal aid contributes to paying for all or some of the costs required in your family law case. This can cover a relationship breakdown; child arrangements, child abduction and divorce.

  • Who is entitled to legal aid?

To be entitled to legal aid, it depends on your financial position, as you must prove you can’t afford solicitor advice to become eligible for this kind of support.

  • How to apply for legal aid?

Your type of case will be considered if you have met the specific criteria required to apply for legal aid. This testing approach involves providing evidence which includes: documentation to prove whether you’re on benefits, including statements; details of your income; accounts of your savings and spending, including payslips and bank statements; and you national insurance number.
