Cycling Claims

According to the Road Traffic Estimates for Great Britain for 2020 provided by the Department of Transport, there was a 21.3% decrease in vehicles being driven on the road in 2020 compared to the previous year.  There was, however, a 45.7% increase in cyclists on the road in 2020, compared to 2019.

In light of Covid-19 and the lockdowns imposed during 2020, there is no great surprise in these statistics, however, what is surprising is the number of accidents.

In reported road traffic incidents in July 2018 – June 2019, there were tragically 3760 fatalities and serious injuries and 13,615 recorded as slightly injured. In July 2019 – June 2020, there were 3720 fatalities and serious injuries and 12,080 recorded as slightly injured.

If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident whilst cycling we understand that following an accident your priority is to get yourself fit and well again and back out cycling as soon as possible.

We will seek to put in place private rehabilitation treatment such as physiotherapy or counselling at the earliest opportunity. Whilst treatment may be prescribed by your GP unfortunately the number of sessions can be limited and there is often a long waiting list on the NHS.

It is well known that once you are ready to commence rehabilitation treatment the quicker the therapy can start the better your chances of recovery are.

This is why when speaking with you for the first time about your claim we will discuss with you treatment requirements.  With physiotherapy, this can be done straight away as soon as the other side has acknowledged the claim.  We can also arrange counselling and other therapies to assist with anxiety about getting back out cycling.  In cases where extensive treatment may be required, we will discuss your needs with the other Parties representatives to obtain funding for treatment as soon as possible and to put in place an agreed therapy plan with an independent rehabilitation provider.

With regards to getting you back on the road, we will seek an interim payment from the insurers to enable your cycle to be repaired or replaced as soon as possible.  We find local cycle shops are happy to provide quotes for repair and replacements of the bicycle and damaged clothing and helmets.
