Today marks a huge change in divorce law.
The long awaited changes mean that divorcing couples no longer need to allege blame or be separated for a minimum of 2 years before they are able to apply to divorce.
Instead, couples who want a divorce or dissolution can approach the process in a far less inflammatory way and are simply required to confirm that the marriage or civil partnership has irretrievably broken down.
Gone also is the ability for one party to ‘defend’ the divorce which had previously led to some applicants being trapped in an unhappy marriage because their spouse refused to accept that their marriage had broken down.
There are also now a number of different choices available for divorcing couples with the addition of the option of both parties applying for the divorce as joint applicants.
It’s important that you speak to a family law expert to ensure that you understand the options available to you under the new divorce law. A divorce does not resolve financial claims and it’s vital that the financial implications of divorce are discussed and explored. Get in touch with our team now for a free initial consultation to understand the changes and how they impact you.
We offer fixed fees and repayment plans to spread the cost of your divorce.
