After an accident that results in serious and often life changing injuries, compensation is not always the best result. Often the thing that is wanted more than money after accidents of this type is for the injured person to be able to get back to the position they were in before the accident in so far as possible. This is where the Rehabilitation Code can help.
The aim of the Rehabilitation Code is to facilitate independent, good quality rehabilitation in an efficient manner for injured parties. It is there to help the injured person to return to as close to their pre-accident state as soon as possible. This requires both the injured persons solicitors and the representative for the other party to work together to achieve the best result for the injured person.
We will invite the other party and their insurance company to adopt the code and agree an “Immediate Needs Assessment Report”. The report is prepared by an independent person with medical expertise. They will advise on your injuries, treatment available and what further treatment you may need.
In addition, consideration will be given to further assistance which may be needed and how else you would benefit. For example, this may include care and assistance around the home, help from cleaners, a gardener and possibly consideration of whether you benefit from having a stair lift installed if the injuries are serious enough to prevent you from climbing the stairs.
Any treatment and assistance agreed by the other party will be carried out on a private basis. This is usually funded in full by the insurance company for the other party.
We believe that early assessment of injuries and treatment can only be a good thing for the injured party. It allows for good quality treatment at no cost to the injured person at what is a very difficult time. The aim is ultimately to ensure the best possible recovery at the earliest opportunity.
At Poole Alcock we have years of experience dealing with clients who have suffered serious injuries. We have seen how this facility can help our severely injured clients have a better quality of life. It can also help facilitate treatment after being injured as a result of someone else’s negligence.
