A trademark is a type of intellectual property that consists of a recognizable sign/ logo, design or expression of words that identifies products or services and distinguishes them from other products or services sold by other businesses. Once registered, a trademark can provide legal protection and exclusive rights to the owner of the trademark.
If you have a logo, design or expression that you would like to protect by way of trademark, we can assist you with all aspects of registration. Initially, we can help you establish what services and products you are looking to protect and advise you on what classes of services you may wish to register under the trademark. We can then undertake research on the IPO and advise you of any similar trademarks which may prove as a barrier to any proposed application. Once satisfied, we can then draft the application and submit the same to the Intellectual Property Office. We will keep you updated and advise you at every stage of the registration process. The trademark will need to be renewed every 10 years to keep it protected.
Our commercial team can prepare the application and submit it as soon as you have approved and signed off the same. However, the Intellectual Property Office will need to review the application and publish it to give other trademark owners opportunity to oppose the registration. The full process is likely to take no less than 2 months.
